Big Gauteng clash nominated for SA Boxing Awards
The duo’s fight was nominated in the Best Male Fight of the Year 2017.
The enthralling clash between two elite Gauteng boxers Mpho Turbo Seforo and Thabang Pretty-boy Ramagole has been nominated for the upcoming South African Boxing Awards.
The duo’s fight was nominated in the Best Male Fight of the Year 2017.
Seforo, the Junior Flyweight Gauteng champion and new World Boxing Federation (WBF) All Africa Title champion, competed against Ramagole at the Rumble in the Ghetto, a boxing tournament which was promoted by Team Dida Boxing Promotion in Kagiso, west of Johannesburg, on 28 October 2017.

The fight between the two rivals was staged by Dida Dipheko, a boxing promoter and mentor to Seforo. Dipheko also was recognised in the form of a nomination in the Most Promising Boxing Promoter category at the awards.
The match between the two contenders became memorable for the fans as both boxers put on an incredible fight in their 10-rounder which kept the spectators on their feet.
This fight was much-anticipated, as both fighters were eager to meet in the ring following a wave of threats. It became one of the most serious and brutal matches in the entire tournament as both fighters bled during the course of the match.

Ramagole came in strong in the first few rounds, but Seforo kept swinging his fast punches to distract Ramagole from his manoeuvres. It was in the eighth round that the tables turned against Ramagole. Seforo came back with hard-hitting punches, arguably launched at turbo speed. The clash concluded with a win for Seforo, who retained his title on points, when the judges’ scores favoured him.
With an impressive record of eight fights – seven wins and one draw – Seforo, who is hoping to triumph in the category, told Northsider that he is looking forward to the awards and is humbled to be nominated among the best boxers in the world. “I’m very happy about the nomination; this is really amazing since my track-record consists of only eight fights. It is also a privilege to be nominated in a fight category that includes international boxers such as Gideon Buthelezi and Zolani Tete,” he said.
Seforo also admitted that the Rumble in the Ghetto fight was one of his toughest matches in 2017. Ramagole also shared the same sentiments as Seforo, agreeing that the fight was one of his best highlights for 2017, despite being defeated.
Both boxers have confirmed their arrangements to attend the awards. The ceremony will be held on 2 February at Boardwalk Casino.
Dipheko, who wished Seforo well at the awards, shared his plans for 2018. He indicated that he will be hosting a tournament in March, as well as organising a proper title-fight for the WBF World Title.
“At the upcoming tournament, Thato Bonokoane will defend his WBF title, Seforo will have a warm-up fight, and the Rodrigues brothers – Frank, who is rated fourth in SA, will contend for the SA title against a KZN boxer, and Fernando, currently rated seventh, will hopefully get an opponent from KZN as well,” said Dipheko as he unpacked the fixtures.
