Modus operandi to be aware of this festive season
Masedi discussed how residents are targeted by criminals in the precinct.
Warrant Officer Masedi Masedi, the Muldersdrift Police spokesperson has warned residents about the most common crime patterns plaguing the area.
Masedi discussed a few of the ways in which residents are easily targeted by criminals in the precinct.

Housebreakings:
Masedi said homeowners tend to leave their homes unattended during holidays or leave their lights on, curtains and windows open for the pets. “Residents tend to leave their lights on. This attracts thieves. They also leave their windows and burglar gates open for their pets to jump in or out of the house during the day,” he explained.
Masedi reminded homeowners, especially those without alarm systems and armed response to avoid doing so, or get someone to guard the property.
House robberies:
“When dogs are barking outside, never leave your property to check what’s happening, rather call 10111 or make use of your panic button,” warned Masedi, advising owners to beef up their security systems since the intruders have special equipment to gain access to properties.
Smash and grabs:
Masedi said such incidents occur mainly on inbound routes where there are yield signs and so forth. As a deterrent, Masedi urged motorists to keep their valuables out of the public eye. “We advise people not to leave any items in the car where they can be seen. It’s advisable to conceal them in the boot,” he explained.
Apart from the warnings, Masedi said the station has increased its manpower which will focus on high-risk areas. “We are busy with mall visits, and we’ve been given extra manpower of 20 constables to be deployed in various hot spots.”
