Squatters evicted during bush cleanup
Honeydew CPF addresses issue of illegal squatter in Welties.
In a bid to clamp down on illegal squatter camps in Weltevreden Park, the Honeydew Community Policing Forum, led by its public relations officer, Jon Rosenberg, embarked on a bush cleanup on 14 September.
The cleanup saw the removal of two men and their belongings. The men had been sleeping under a bougainvillea bush adjacent to Palm Court Shopping Centre on Cornelius Street.

“On investigation, we found two men had set up mattresses and other belongings. They were given time to move, but decided they were comfortable there and were not moving,” said Rosenberg.
The CPF wasted no time calling Jonte Kinch, a young tree-feller, who assisted with the trimming down of the bush without requesting payment.
Jonte said assisting the CPF was part of giving back to the community and recognising the long hours, hard work and dedication they put in.
“I’d like to thank Jonte, and wish him well in his business. He’s a young man who has taken the initiative to start his own business, but is happy to assist the community where he can,” Rosenberg concluded.
