Zandspruit receives green love

Miss Earth SA and Samsonite team up to plant trees at Zandspruit Primary School.

To usher in the warm feel of spring, Miss Earth South Africa and Samsonite planted much-needed trees at Zandspruit Primary School for Arbour Day.

“By partnering with Wild Route Environmental Consultants, Gebco Compost and Samsonite we are able to reach communities and bring a little Green Love wherever we go,” said director of Miss Earth SA, Ella Bella Leite.

Samsonite Southern Africa planted 10 trees at the school and another 20 trees will be planted by the luggage group together with Miss Earth. Rob Kunze, director of Samsonite Southern Africa, said, “As beneficiaries of the growth of air travel and as responsible corporate citizens who can make a difference by improving the environment for the learners at Zandspruit Primary School by providing a better aesthetic environment and shade on the playground in future years, Samsonite can make a difference for generations to come.”

Arbour Day, which has been celebrated worldwide for over 100 years, acknowledges the importance of trees and the important role they play in our environment. In modern times, it also aims to highlight and educate people on the dangers of deforestation and the reality of climate change.

Not only is September all about planting trees, it is also Tourism and Heritage Month when we have the opportunity to recognise our role in the environment.

The Miss Earth SA programme aims to develop young leaders in the environment who will carry this ethos and change in behaviour in their lives at work and at home.
