Trinityhouse Little Falls Pre-Primary School put on its annual school play to the soundtrack of four decades of music.
The little ones twisted, shook and boogied through an array of music from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s that had the audience singing along to the most nostalgic tunes.
Lynn van Jaarsveld, principal of the school said preschools are often asked why they have concerts when the children are so small and so shy. The answer is that as educators, they are aware that performing on stage is a new experience for little children, but feel the experience is important because it builds self-esteem and confidence, and allows the children to feel part of a group while practising with their friends.
“We always assure parents that having some children not wanting to participate is completely normal and totally acceptable,” Lynn added.
It takes many weeks of practice every year for the little ones to get to know their routines. All the children participate in the annual concert and put on two shows every year, one for their grandparents and the other for their parents and siblings.
“We had incredibly positive feedback from our parents, who thoroughly enjoyed watching their children this year,” Lynn said.
