Famous bike club injects funds into West Rand NGO
The Bethany House Trust received a cheque in recognition of the selfless work they do in the community.
The West Rand’s famous motor bike club, the Highway Cruisers, has lived up to its ethos of brotherhood and caring for the community by donating funds to the Bethany House Trust, a non-profit organisation that caters for underprivileged children.
The bike club handed a cheque for R20 000 to this Mogale City-based charity organisation. The handover was made at the new Highway Cruiser Chapter clubhouse, at the Soli Deo Gloria Boutique Hotel in North Riding on 25 August.
Highway Cruisers vice-president, Johnny Wilkinson, said, “The Highway Cruisers Chapter embarked on a charity drive during the launch of its amazing new clubhouse, situated at the Soli Deo Gloria Boutique Hotel, 330A Boundary Road, North Riding. During this launch, an amount of R20 000 was raised for the children of the Bethany House Trust.”
“The Highway Cruisers motorcycle riding association is built on a cornerstone of brotherhood with a foundation of honour, respect, and integrity that is evident and reflects in our interaction with others,” said Wilkinson as he shared the club’s ethos, adding that the club has zero tolerance for politics and is aimed at creating opportunities for motorcycle riders.
Gert Jonker, the chief executive officer of the Bethany House Trust, told the Northsider how the donation will assist them. “The generous donation will be used to buy food for the children residing in the Child and Youth Care Centre,” he said.
Jonker also shed light on how the organisation sustains itself. “Bethany House is partly subsidised by government, but the bulk of the operational costs are funded by Bethany House through corporate social investments. As a registered public benefit organisation with section 18(a) tax exempt status, a donation to Bethany House is tax deductible as donations tax, thus making Bethany House Trust an ideal CSI partner for any business.”
