Smart woman, smart money
Members of the community learnt about financial independence through author, Sylvia Walker's new book.
Author, Sylvia Walker, presented her new book, Smart Woman, at a launch at Hirsch’s Strubens Valley.
As a qualified financial planner and author/ co-author of three books, Sylvia finally decided to put her advice down on paper. The book gives a variety of tips as well as a money personality assessment, all to help a person gain financial independence and create wealth. The book focuses on women as Sylvia feels finances and the financial world are still being dominated by men. However, the advice applies to both sexes.

During the launch on 16 August, Sylvia presented Smart Woman as a book with two parts, one focusing on saving money and the other on investing it. In summarising the book, she said, “The book is based around a simple formula which is spend less than you earn and invest wisely”.
She explained that research has shown that money does make you happy – not necessarily because it enables you to buy things, but to afford enjoyable experiences. Thus, your finances are one of Sylvia’s four pillars in life: Financial health, relationships, spirituality and self-actualisation.

In the book, Sylvia discusses the different ways to invest your money and how they benefit you, as well as being in control of your money and not work from pay cheque to pay cheque, among other important advice.
She said it is nonsense that only rich people need to invest their money and that anyone can save if you make it a priority.

Smart Woman can be found at major bookstores and online for R230. A copy can also be bought directly from Sylvia with the option of it being autographed. For more details or to purchase a copy, contact Sylvia at sylvia@sylviawalker.co.za or visit https://sylviawalker.co.za/.
