Sasol invests in early-childhood academics
Sasol continues to touch the lives of little ones at Emthonjeni of Zandspruit Community Centre.
Hard work paid off for the little ones in Zandspruit, who were left smiling after receiving their literature and mathematics academic exercise certificates courtesy of Sasol’s social investment project on 16 August.
Over 70 children who receive basic assistance from Emthonjeni of Zandspruit Community Centre on Eureka Street were hailed for their efforts and success in the exercises.
Sasol’s head of marketing and public affairs Christopher Kabosha, who conducted the certificate handover, encouraged the children not to be demotivated by their circumstances, but to use education to better themselves.
“It doesn’t matter where you start, what matters is where you finish,” Christopher motivated the children.
He added that the area in which a person starts does not predict his or her destiny. “It doesn’t matter if you start in Randburg or Zandspruit, just read your books and study.”
Evelyn Dikeledi Gouwe, the centre’s project coordinator shared the same views as Christopher. She said, “It doesn’t matter where you come from, whether it is Zandspruit from a shack without water and electricity, it is important to value your education.”
Sasol has a long-standing relationship with the centre, dating from 2015.
Emthonjeni was established in 2002 and offers services such as job creation, medical, education and recreation. The centre has benefited immensely over the years from the petrol giant, which has sponsored computer classes and ablution facilities, amongst other things.
Christopher also appealed to the community to take good care of the centre. “We know about this informal settlement, but I encourage you to look after the community centre, because it is yours,” he concluded.
