Accident on Christiaan de Wet Road leaves one critically injured
A critically injured patient was airlifted from the scene.
A serious motor vehicle accident on Christiaan de Wet Road near Makro has left five people injured.
Emergency services responded to the scene where a SUV and two light motor vehicles collided. Paramedics arrived on scene at about 7.44am.

ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring, reported that upon closer inspection, paramedics found a light motor vehicle lying in a ditch on the side of the road while the SUV and a second light motor vehicle were found in the middle of the road.

Paramedics began assessing the patients and found a man was found lying trapped inside the SUV in a critical condition. A second man was found in the passenger seat of the light motor vehicle, also in a critical condition. The driver of the vehicle lying in the ditch was assessed and found to be in a serious condition. Two remaining patients were found to have sustained moderate injuries.

Rescue services had to use specialised rescue equipment to free the critically injured man from the SUV. Shortly after, paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically and seriously injured patients with advanced life support interventions.
Once the patients had been treated, the two critically injured were airlifted to hospital, one by the ER24 Oneplan helicopter and the second by a private medical helicopter.

The remaining patients were transported by ambulance to nearby hospitals for further treatment. The exact cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
The roads are now open to traffic.
