Allen Glen rugby victory makes history
Local rugby boys make Allen Glen High School history.
For the first time in the school’s history, Allen Glen High School’s rugby boys have won the Golden Lions Middle Schools U/15 trophy.
It was a momentous occasion on 29 July, when the team won with a score of 11–5 against Hoërskool President – a moment the school’s rugby coordinator, Gerhard van Schalkwyk, said he had been working towards for six years.

“The whole team made a big step up and had a perfect season, not losing one of their games,” he said.
There were games in which the coaches would call time as soon as Allen Glen had scored over 50 points, which sometimes occurred before halftime.

Captain of the U/15 team, Dylan van Heerden and vice-captain, Luwi Mashitisho, said they are extremely proud of their achievements, but they would not have been able to do it without their coaches.
The team now has its eyes set on the Beeld Trophy. The next match will be the quarterfinal, on 12 August.
