Businesses compete for the best potjiekos
About 40 businesses went head-to-head to cook the best potjiekos in Rocci's competition.
The Roodepoort Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Rocci) recently hosted another successful potjiekos competition.
The annual event was held at the Black Eagles Boutique Hotel and Conferences on 21 July. About 40 stalls from various businesses competed against each other to produce the best-tasting potjiekos and take home the title of the 2017 winner.
The mood was festive overall, as while the potjies boiled and bubbled, participants could browse through a mini-market, take part in team-building activities, and play beer pong.
Teams were judged on their theme, team spirit and the taste of the potjiekos, among other criteria.
The judging of the potjiekos started at about 11am and finally revealed Kia Roodepoort’s team, Kia Madness, as the Rocci Potjiekos competition 2017 winner.
The top five businesses were as follows:
- KIA Roodepoort (Kia Madness)
- Entin Insurance (Pimps)
- Rumskey Interior Contractors (Crazy Kids)
- ITEC Connect (Eastern Eagles)
- Brian’s Supermarket (Super Brians)
After the prize-giving at about 5pm, the teams could dig into their potjies and socialise into the night. Chamber manager, Isabel Janse van Rensburg, said the event is a great way for businesses to network on a more social platform. She invited businesses to book for next year’s competition, which will take place at about the same time in July.
