Honeydew CPF, our community watchdogs
Honeydew CPF strives to be the eyes and ears of the police within the community.
Whether it’s a road accident or a robbery, the Honeydew Community Policing Forum (CPF) looks out for the community.
Every Friday, they run a large patrol from the evening till the early hours of the morning. Patrollers look out for open gates, abandoned cars, and generally help out where they can. The initiative started about three months ago to assist the police by being their eyes and ears in the community.

Public relations officer for the CPF, Jon Rosenberg, said the community is very grateful to the CPF for their efforts. Local resident, Paula Potgieter, regularly makes soup and coffee or hot chocolate for the patrollers to keep them warm and awake during their patrols. The community has donated a number of flasks so each vehicle has its own source of coffee, and community members take turns to make soup for the CPF.
During a patrol on 30 June, the CPF questioned vagrants who had started a small cooking fire on the corner of JG Strijdom Road and Cornelius Street; ran the number plates on a vehicle without a licence disc, and kept an eye on drunk individuals in a residential area.

Later on in the evening, they responded to a vehicle accident in Boskruin and then decided to pack up around 1.30am. However, they responded to an armed robbery in Sundowner at about 3am.
The CPF wants to eventually expand their patrols, and have them more regularly in more areas, so volunteers are welcome. Rosenberg explained that they have a vetting process whereby volunteers’ finger prints are taken and checked for criminal records. Those who are cleared can then join the patrols.
