Whether in the botanical garden or at the zoo, the children of Dios Los Ninos School know all about learning the fun way.
Grade 7 to 9 children took their study of ecology to the next level when they visited the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden. The youngsters discussed food webs (cycles) and food pyramids. Among the other activities on the day, the children estimated the height of a tree and learnt about their scientific names, the different shapes of leaves and biomes.

“The day ended with a picnic after which the learners had tons of fun playing a variety of games. The learners had a fantastic day,” said principal Leonie de Kock.
However, it is not only the senior children who know how to have fun. The little ones in Grade 0 to 3 visited the Joburg Zoo with their parents and teachers to learn about the animals.
“The weather was perfect and the little ones were beyond excited,” said De Kock. “They could barely contain their excitement and couldn’t wait to see the animals and learn something new. We also spent some times on the rides. The learners loved the rides and could not contain their laughter.”
