STOP racism signs in Welties against municipal law

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Ward 126 councillor David Brand is not happy with STOP racism signs in his area.

In an apparent effort to create awareness about racism, an unidentified artist or organisation has been spraying graffiti on municipal property in Weltvreden Park.

On Wilderbraam Road and on the corner of Dolfhout and Jim Fouche roads, stop street signs have been defaced with graffiti that reads: ‘STOP racism’

Although the artist or organisation may have good intentions, the area’s councillor David Brand disapproved of the graffiti saying that it was a violation of municipal bylaws.

“I understand whoever is trying to get their message across, but bylaws do not allow anyone to do this. They are defacing municipal property, and is there a point to it?” Brand asked.

He urged the graffiti artists to use acceptable platforms such as social media to get their message across.
