Hand-prints and hospital tours at Life Wilgeheuwel

WILGEHEUWEL – Humpty Dumpty Play School children are given a tour of Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital

Humpty Dumpty Play School children in grades 0 and 00 spent an educational day at Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital to learn what happens inside the institute of healing.

The day started with a warm welcome and medical-related games before being met by a paediatrician, Dr Harshad Ranchod who spoke to them about some of the instruments doctors use.

Registered nurse and quality safety support specialist, Mishaan Daniel, helps Gabrieal Breedt make his hand print.

The children were also visited by Rusty the Rhino, the mascot for a culinary programme by Medirest that is served in the paediatric ward, who gave many group hugs and photo opportunities.

Grade 0 teacher for the school in Randpark Ridge, Michelle Watson, explained,

“This is not the first time children from our school have visited the hospital. It is part of their curriculum but we also think it is a good experience for them because when they do ever get sick, they will not be afraid of going to the hospital or doctor.”

The children had the opportunity to visit the patient waiting area of an operating theatre and part of the maternity ward. Since it was the Global Handwashing Day when they visited on 5 May, the children were taught the correct method to wash their hands and pledged to wash their hands by creating a collage of colourful handprints.
