Allen Glen High School rugby boys excel at Easter festivals

ALLEN'S NEK – Allen Glen High School rugby teams excelled in their tournaments over the Easter holiday.

Allen Glen High School schoolchildren spent some of their Easter holiday making their school proud on the sports field.

In the Krugersdorp High School Easter sports festival, Allen Glen’s U14 rugby team won two out of their three games.

One of their victories was over Northcliff High School who they beat 32–12, a special achievement for the school.

Allen Glen’s other rugby teams, the U16s and U19s were unbeaten in their respective festivals, King Edward School and Krugersdorp.

This was not surprising as six players have been chosen to represent the U16 and U19 Golden Lion’s Presidential teams.

Director of sport at the school, Hennie van Vuuren, said their boys were up against top schools and it was an achievement to beat them.

First team rugby captain, Sinothande Tshontyi, said,

“Our three games at the Krugersdorp festival were tough, especially for me since I was one of the younger players but we won all our three matches against Port Natal High School, Hoerskool Monument and Hoerskool Bekker.”

In other sporting news, Allen Glen’s netball teams held a camp at the school over the holiday in preparation for the coming season.

Three of the school’s netball girls have been selected for Gauteng trials to take place in May. The U16 netball and hockey teams have remained unbeaten in their league games.
