Fighting crime in Sector 2
HONEYDEW – Sector 2 chairman, John Baisley, addresses members in the sector on crime.
John Baisley, Sector 2 Community Policing Forum chairperson, writes:
I write to the members of Sector 2 after having attended two armed robberies in our sector in one day (2 April).
Both occurred around midday in short succession of each other and were possibly perpetrated by the same gang.
I want to highlight two things:
One is the greater need for communication in the sector. As a sector committee, we will use the Weltevreden Park Facebook page, the Randpark Ridge Facebook page, the various newspapers in the area when space allows, the Sector 2 website, emails and various WhatsApp groups which cover the sector.
At last week’s Sector 2 meeting we decided on a way forward with the WhatsApp groups to allow for more accurate dissemination of information and this will be implemented shortly.
I must stress the need for accurate information when it comes to crime.
Please make every effort to get your communications done via your residents association. Please join your association as only together can we make the difference we need where we live.
Secondly, we have noted your concerns when it comes to crime and as a sector, we are doing all we can to curb crime. This involves meeting with the police, challenging them to provide the service we would expect, engaging with our security providers and then communicating with you.
There are three role players in the fight against crime. Only when the three work together will this bring crime down.
For now, please ensure you receive our communications and as I mentioned, make sure you are part of the crime communications that emanate from your association.
