About 500 of The King’s School West Rand learners participated in a shavathon/sprayathon, which saw all grades sport new hair colours.
It was the second such event the school has held, organised by senior English teacher and IT assistant, Jürgen Lier.
Last year, the Grade 11 group dedicated their shavathon contribution to a peer who had been diagnosed with cancer.
This year the event took place over two days, 10 and 13 March.
The school hoped to beat last year’s raised amount of R11 000 as Lier estimated more learners took part this year.
“It was a fantastic vibe. Really a lot of fun. The children enjoy spraying their fellow peers and they did a great job,” said Lier.
The shavathon took place during the grade’s break and assembly time, where more learners chose to spray rather than shave.
However, the school’s principal, Ken Langley, opted to shave his head, shaving one half at the primary school and the other half on the field with the high school scholars.
