Ward 97 welcomes new branch committee
RUIMSIG – Ward 97 DA branch elections reveal new committee.
RUIMSIG – A new branch committee was elected on 2 February at the Democratic Alliance (DA) Ward 97 branch Annual General Meeting.
At the meeting, community members nominated themselves and their peers to form the committee, which will build the party within the ward and support the ward councillor.
Public relations councillor, Ingrid Reinten, presided over the election while Ward 97 councillor, Leah Knott, documented the votes.
Short introductions and motivations were made by nominees for contested positions on the committee and a vote was cast by show of hands. Anyone who registered in the ward for the last election was allowed to be on the committee or vote in the election.
Members of the new Ward 97 DA branch committee include:
Chairperson – Andronnicah ‘Pinki’ Moholeng
Vice chairperson – Sylvester Moepha
Vice chairperson – Ognan Williams
Branch secretary – Petros Mkhabela
Membership secretary – Daniel Seepe
Youth representative – Michael Moholeng
Dawn (Democratic Alliance Women’s Network) representative – Gift Rampopo.
Delegates who will attend regional and provincial congress meetings were chosen.
Pat Mcgee, DA Constituency chairperson said delegates were important as they vote for changes in policies.
Reinten advised the new committee to elect new volunteer district captains as soon as possible.
Captains build support in the community and gather volunteers to man voting stations and count votes among other duties.
After the meeting, Mcgee congratulated the new committee and thanked everyone for coming.
Dates for the Annual General Meetings for other wards are still to be decided.
