Mostert takes her bite of the Big Apple

FAIRLAND – Local Rotarian, Annemarie Mostert becomes an honoree at the annual Rotary International United Nations Open Day in New York City.

Local Rotarian, Annemarie Mostert, recently became an honoree at the annual Rotary International United Nations Open Day.

Mostert was one of six Rotarians in the world, along with two companies, to receive this recognition. The event took place in New York City in front of business leaders, civil society, United Nations representatives and fellow Rotarians.

The recognition for responsible business is the first of its kind.

Mostert has been a Rotarian for the past 22 years and described a Rotarian as being business people who invest their resources into making a sustainable difference in the community.

The Fairland resident expressed that she hoped to impact the country more consciously.

“We need more socially conscious individuals and companies, the role you can play by just being conscience is profound,” said Mostert.

Through her time at the United Nations, she learned that a dialogue platform is needed which creates positive change in communities around the globe. “We all have the responsibility to leave the world being a better place for all. My hope is that people seize every opportunity they come across. The question we should ask ourselves in this busy world is how can we connect to those in need and bring hope.”

The passionate Rotarian also said she hoped that people could see the power of connecting through her work.

“Make a difference through your position of power.”

Mostert is the founder of Weltevreden Park-based Sešego Cares, an independent non-profit organisation which helps orphaned and abandoned children, the elderly and those impacted and affected by disease, violence and abuse.

“My wish for the year is to promote better understanding and peace in all we do.”
