E-learning solutions provide easy learning

POORTVIEW – Read how e-learning solutions improve performance at Eagle House School.

Teaching and learning have become easy at Eagle House School in Poortview.

This follows the school’s interest and association with innovative paperless technology, which plays a huge role in maintaining a high standard and quality education.

Principal of the school, Mark Rooza, who is excited about the e-learning, said they have a huge impact in critical subjects such as science and maths.

Promethean and Extramarks are the two programs the school is currently using. With Extramarks being the latest e-learning solution at the school, Rooza has given it a thumbs-up, citing the benefits. “It makes our lives easy. [All] content can be accessed from the board. It is teacher-friendly and provides different solutions to a module or subject.”

He added that the friendliness of the program enables schoolgoers to record the entire learning session in class and allows them to revisit the work during the schoolchildren’s spare time. “It allows the pupil to record in class and explore different case studies using visuals. Another benefit is that the recorded session can be emailed to pupils who have been absent [and allows them] to catch up,” Rooza explained.

Although the school offers a choice between e-learning tools and hard copy material, schoolgoers seem to enjoy the electronic method of studying. Ismaeel Chohan in Grade 12, explained why he was impressed with e-learning. He said, “Extramarks is beneficial to us because it contains more explanations than a normal study guide or textbook.”

The school has scooped a 100 per cent pass rate for the past four years and it is all thanks to the e-learning support, according to Rooza.

Jafta Mokoka from Extramarks said the program is available online for yearly subscriptions in teacher-led and self-taught methods.
