The Florida South African Police Service (SAPS) have made a shocking 50 arrests in just five days, Captain Lydia Dikolomela confirmed on Wednesday 10 July.
The arrests were made in the period from Friday 5 to Tuesday 9 July. Other arrests made range from being in possession of a gambling machine illegally, to travelling without a valid train ticket, to intimidation.
The captain also again expressed her concern regarding the drug epidemic in the area, considering that 16 of the 50 arrests were drug related. Of that 16 one suspect was aged 15 and another two suspects were under the age of 20.
“Drugs are still rife in the area,” Dikolomela admitted.
Arrests made:
• Five suspects (30, 37, 22, 23, 36) for being in possession of suspected stolen property
• 16 suspects (19, 28, 28, 27, 29, 30, 26, 15, 23, 40, 18, 27, 20, 23, 20, 21) for being in possession of drugs
• Two suspects (43 and 27) for assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH)
• Six suspects (43, 51, 28, 24, 36, 23) for theft
• Two suspects (39 and 35) for drunken driving and reckless and/ or negligent driving
• One suspect (23) for drunken driving
• Seven (41, 23, 36, 25, 23, 28, 28) suspects for travelling without a valid train ticket
• One suspect (52) for intimidation
• One suspect (36) for fraud
• Five suspects (34, 33, 34, 29, 31) for business robbery
• Three suspects (27, 33 and 32) for loitering
• One suspect (20) for being in possession of a gambling machine illegally
