RiverWel holds AGM
WELTEVREDEN PARK – RiverWel Resident's Association urges people to join for many benefits.
The RiverWel Residents Association held their annual general meeting at Weltevreden Park Pre-Primary School.
About 40 members of the public attended the meeting on 19 October where major issues were discussed. The association’s chairperson, Kevin Thomson welcomed attendees and discussed security issues in the area.
Thomson mentioned that the security company, Community Support Services is now responsible for the area and two vehicles will be on patrol. “The biggest issue is vagrants in the greenbelt area,” said Thomson.
Ward 126 councillor, David Brand also attended the meeting so that he could be introduced to all the members. He urged people to get their neighbours to join the association as its future depended on the number of members.
Community Support Services owner, Greg Pearce said that to have a safe area, one needs to go back to the basics and protect your home. “Make sure your gate is closed and remain vigilant.” He explained that the criminals are not there to get caught. “If they see your home has security, they will go away. If you see someone suspicious, make a noise, they will run away,” said Pearce.
Thomson once again urged people to get neighbours to join, as more members meant another patrol vehicle was a possibility. Thomson added that future plans for the association involved the installation of another line-of-sight camera in the area.
The meeting ended with the election of a new committee. Four new members were willing to join the committee.
