A burst water pipe on the corner of Rinyani and Chateau avenues gushed clean municipal water for over five hours.
The pipe appears to have burst in the early hours of 13 October. Residents took to social media to voice their frustrations and concerns. The issue was reported to Johannesburg Water (JW) multiple times on both their Twitter page and their customer service platform.

This is a concern for many residents due to the fact that recently water restrictions have resulted in water throttling in some Roodepoort suburbs. READ THE FULL STORY HERE.
For some community member’s water pressure was slowed but for others, water had been completely cut off. JW said that this is a result of low water pressure which results in higher areas not having water.
Rand Water cited that on 10 October the Vaal Dam water levels were at 28.2 per cent.
Also, according to a Weltevreden Park resident, this is the third burst water pipe in one week.
Another concerned resident, Angela Swart said, “[This is] so frustrating for residents who are trying our utmost to conserve our precious resource when we have to watch it flowing like a river down the road, not benefitting anybody.”
JW responded on their Twitter page saying that a call had been logged for repairs and technicians were on the way.
Swart added, “[The] water needs to be switched off ASAP so that we do not experience water throttling due to excess water usage in the area.”
Questions have been sent to JW and they have said the information will be sent as soon as it becomes available.
