Problems in the pipeline
WELTEVREDEN PARK – JMPD urges people to be aware of construction and respect the flaggers whose job it is to keep traffic flowing.
The F46 pipeline project that will run from the Waterval Reservoir to the Weltevreden Reservoir is well underway and is expected to last 18 months.
JG Strydom Road is currently one of the roads that is affected by the project. A stop-and-go system has been put in place to ensure that traffic flows as one lane has been closed due to the construction. JMPD’s Sergeant Ayanda Otto of Ward 126 said that a construction worker at the project got knocked down by an inpatient motorist on JG Strydom Road.
Spokesperson for JMPD, Edna Mamonyane urged residents to be aware of the project and respect construction workers. “These people are there to do their jobs and warn motorists about obstructions in the road, therefore they should be respected,” said Mamonyane. She added that the workers will wear reflector jackets so that they can be easily spotted.
In a meeting held in June about the project, it was said that the steel pipe has a diameter of 1.4m and will cover two sections namely Section A from the Waterval Reservoir to the Western bypass and section B from Western Bypass to the Weltevreden Park Reservoir. March 2018 is the expected date for the project to be completed.
An update on the project cannot be given at this stage as members of the Rand Water F46 pipeline project are not allowed to talk to the media.
