UPDATE: Petrol strike still ongoing
Members of the Chemical, Energy, Paper, Wood and Allied Workers Union (CEPPWAWU) are one of three unions still negotiating their demands.

The South African Petroleum Industry Association (Sapia) confirmed that the petrol strike was still ongoing around the country.
Members of the Chemical, Energy, Paper, Wood and Allied Workers Union (CEPPWAWU) are one of three unions still negotiating their demands.
Sapia executive director, Avhapfani Tshifularo, said the negotiations resumed on 15 August under the guidance of the CCMA. “We are pleased that petroleum products are being delivered to petrol stations without hindrance.
We have been informed by the National Petroleum Employers Association (NPEA) that conciliation talks with Sapia, with the intervention of the CCMA, have been adjourned until next Monday,” said Tshifularo.
He added that his main concern is the speed at which deliveries are made as some employees are still not back at work.
The union is demanding a nine percent wage increase and a one-year wage agreement, while employers are offering seven percent and a two-year agreement.
Since the commencement of the strike, the overall effect has been limited, although some residents have experienced petrol stations running dry. “Motorists should continue to assist the petroleum industry by sticking to their normal refuelling patterns,” said Tshifularo.
