Cameron wins silver

RIO – Cameron van der Burgh finishes second in the 100m breastsroke event at Rio.

Cameron van der Burgh won South Africa’s first medal at the Rio 2016 Olympics on 7 August.

He came second in the 100m breaststroke event in a time of 00:59:69, behind Britain’s Adam Peaty, who broke his own record to finish well ahead in 00:57:13.

Van der Burgh’s silver medal is South Africa’s first in this Olympics, but swimmer Chad le Clos is expected to finish near the top in the 200m freestyle and 200m butterfly events, starting tonight (8 August).
