Book sale for cancer
STRUBENS VALLEY – Book sale to be held for a dear friend to help with medical expenses after a cancer scare.
A resident of Strubens Valley decided that she can simply not let her colleague and friend suffer due to big financial bills after a cancer scare.
Veronica Bailey explained that her colleague, who cannot be named, but who is known to Roodepoort Northsider, had a lump in her throat that had to be removed as doctors were afraid that it may be cancerous. It turned out that the lump was cancerous and now she has to have her whole thyroid removed.
“The medical costs already costs approximately R70 000. Our CEO paid for it now, but she will have to pay him back and with radiation, the costs will go up,” said Bailey.
Bailey contacted Kellyann van der Meer who runs the Facebook group, One Small Act of Kindness, for ideas. Van der Meer said that she runs a small second-hand bookstore that will host a book sale in aid of raising funds for Bailey’s colleague.
The book sale will take place at the bookstore on the corner of Republic Road and 1st Street in Darrenwood on 6 August from 8.30am to 12.00pm.
“She is more than my colleague she is my friend as I have known her for 16 years,” said Bailey. Anyone with second-hand books can contact Bailey.
