Help needed for fire victims
ZANDSPRUIT – Honeydew Police and CPF urge people to donate blankets, clothes and perishable foods to residents who lost their houses in a fire.
Hundreds of people were left homeless on Tuesday after a fire broke out destroying about 120 shacks in the informal settlement of Zandspruit.
According to the spokesperson of the Honeydew Police, Warrant Officer, Karen Jacobs it is believed that the fire was caused by illegal electricity connections, but the matter is still being investigated. Jane Mokhethi from the Emthonjeni Community Centre in Zandspruit said that she is still not sure exactly how many people were affected, but there were many.
WO Jacobs said that the Honeydew Police along with the Honeydew CPF is urging people to donate perishable foods, blankets and clothes to help the people affected by the fire. Mokhethi said that these people stayed at Pastor David’s Church in Zandspruit since the fire on Tuesday. “I saw residents are busy rebuilding their homes,” said WO Jacobs.
