A barefoot food experience
MULDERSDRIFT - Food and herb enthusiast, Sharon Baumgart speaks on her new venture.
A meal should not just be a time to refuel but an experience, according to local foodie, Sharon Baumgart.
Having always wanted to be a chef, Baumgart opened her first restaurant in 2002 in Struben’s Valley and from there has been in the commercial catering industry. However, Baumgart’s food has always had a special touch. Since 1997, Baumgart studied herbalism and knows the importance of what we put into our bodies.
Even though she is known for her knowledge on herbs and presenting workshops on all aspects of organic gardening and herbal use, Heat n Eat and her work at Bryanston Sports Club had locals mouths watering. Heat n Eat is the frozen home-made meals business Baumgart started in 2005 and still continues today.
Having lived in Muldersdrift for many years and only recently moving to Allen’s Nek, Baumgart is returning to Muldersdrift with her newest venture. Baumgart will head up the restaurant at Ngwenya Glass Village and transform the place into a rendition of a Viennese garden restaurant.
Here is where Baumgart will continue with her Heat n Eat meals and her herb business Barefoot herbs. The restaurant, under Baumgart’s management will open on 30 July under the new name of Barefoot.
“We care about our customers and go the extra mile to give them quality food at reasonable prices. We want to make eating at Barefoot an experience, not just a re-fuel for energy,” Baumgart added.
In line with the unique look of the restaurant, those who wish to attend the opening will be required to bring a piece or set of cutlery or crockery, to which they will be served free food from the snack arrangements provided. The cutlery and crockery will be collected and used in the restaurant as part of its unique style and contributes to the experience.
