Police celebrate youth day with pupils
MULDERSDRIFT – Glenburn lodge and Muldersdrift police celebrate Youth Day with school children.
Pupils from Swartkop Valley Primary farm school were advised to focus on their school work and refrain from delinquency.
Muldersdrift police, Bethany House Trust and Glenburn Lodge held a youth celebration day on 14 June with about 200 pupils at Glenburn Lodge. The celebration was meant to educate children about the importance of commemorating youth day.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Hitler Ngwenya told pupils to focus on their studies in earnest.
“We are here to honour you as our children and we are saying, look after yourself,” he said.
Krugersdorp Police Cluster Constable Lucky Matome also explained that children should listen and always nurture their education.
“This country needs people like you, we do not want you to bully others,” he said.
This farm school was adopted by the Glenburn Lodge as one of their corporate social investment (CSI) project. The lodge had established a joint venture with the police and community.
They donate food to the school on a regular basis in order to assist disadvantaged pupils. The lodge manager, Nigel Peel, said the event was to help pupils know and understand the true meaning of the 16 June youth celebration.
“You could see that it was fun and entertaining to children. This will show young people what is expected of them,” he said.
Isaac Khosa from Gauteng Community Safety Department explained that it was events of this nature which give children from the farm schools hope. “This shows that they are not neglected, although they are in a farm school, they can still feel that they are fortunate,” he said.
He further explained poor parental supervision was also a critical factor in the growth of children.
