Police have calmed down the situation in Zandspruit Informal Settlement after residents took to the streets and set tyres alight on Beyers Naudé Drive.
This follows disconnections of illegal electricity on the morning of 8 March. A police official, who won’t be named as he is not designated to talk to the media, said residents were throwing stones at them.
It was advisable for motorists to avoid Beyers Naudé Drive near Zandspruit.
City power, Eskom, JMPD and Honeydew Police held a joint operation in the morning to disconnect all illegal electricity connections.
