Friends of Kloofendal have great plans for the new year
KLOOFENDAL – Residents are welcome to enjoy great activities at Kloofendal Nature Reserve with their families.
The Kloofendal Nature Reserve has some great activities planned for the new year ahead. Through these activities, the Friends of Kloofendal (FroK) aims to create awareness about all the beautiful things at the reserve.
FroK guide, Karin Spottiswoode said that residents can enjoy picnicking with their children, who can also enjoy playing in the amphitheatre.
Residents can also discover the beauty and peace at the reserve by walking along the trails where they can witness how nature adjusts to drought and recovers in a short amount of time.
“This year FroK hopes to move their environmental educational displays, including numerous specimens from within and around the reserve. We plan to move the Kloofendal Ecological Centre from the former tuck-shop into the Kloofendal Ecological Centre for the benefit of the community for environmental education,” said Spottiswoode,
FroK will open the new Kloofendal Ecological Centre furnished with the FroK display, which will coincide with the launch of the Wild Flower booklet on 12 March.
“Many little field flowers are out in bloom, where they can be identified from the FroK’s brand new Imaged list of Wild Flowers of Kloofendal Nature Reserve by Dr Jan van Wyk first edition that was printed in December last year. The small-sized guide that was sponsored by FroK has already sold 21 out of the 100 copies that have been issued,” added Spottiswoode.
She concluded that the group would like to continue to provide the community with a wide variety of environmental educational walks during the weekends and environmental educational excursions for school groups and university groups during the week.
The next annual Annual General Meeting will take place in October, and all residents are welcome.
