Worst road accidents in 2015
ROODEPOORT – A roundup of some of the accidents in the Roodeport area for 2015.
We have seen yet another year of horrific car accidents around the Roodepoort area. The department of transport said drunk driving remains one of the main contributing factors to crashes. Department of Transport Minister Dipuo Peters said new road fatality statistics have shown 80 per cent of the deaths on the country’s roads comprise of adults and males between the ages of 19 and 34. Here are some of the articles of road accidents that happened this year in the Roodepoort area in 2015.
Two vehicles were involved in an accident on Ouklip Road close to the Ruhamah Drive Intersection on 17 January. A Toyota Fortuner was knocked on its side by a delivery truck and this caused the Fortuner to overturn and come to a standstill on the driver’s side of the truck. The delivery truck crashed through a residential wall after it hit the Toyota and the truck came to a standstill inside the property.

Two elderly women lost their lives on 30 January when a car they were travelling in collided head on with another car. The driver of a silver Honda was trying to avoid a roadblock that Metro Police had set up on Hendrik Potgieter Road. He made a U-turn and drove facing oncoming traffic. That is when he collided with the women’s vehicle.

Top Billing presenter Simba Mhere died on 31 January in a fatal car crash in Johannesburg. Passenger and friend, Katy-Shady O’ Brian also died in the crash on the N3 North near the Marlboro offramp.
A man was airlifted to hospital following a collision between the car he was driving and a truck on the N14 in Muldersdrift. The truck had collided with the driver’s door of the car and paramedics had to reverse the truck to gain access to the vehicle.

Man dies after a multiple car collision on Hendrik Potgieter
A man died after a white bakkie and a black CTV 300 IE Scooter traveling down Hendrik Potgieter Road towards Cradlestone Mall, was hit by a blue van.
A woman was driving home on 6 May when a car drove behind her at a high speed, and it clipped her while trying to overtake her.
A woman and her two-year-old child were killed on 17 June, after they were hit by a light motor vehicle on Peter Road in Ruimsig
A driver of a minibus taxi passed away after being involved in a serious motor vehicle accident with a BMW on 21 June on Hendrik Potgieter Road near Van Staden Road.
A man was critically injured on the morning of 14 October after he was struck by a vehicle at the corner of Beyers Naudé Drive and Juice Street.
A taxi crashed into the back of a van at the corner of Christiaan de Wet Road and Dolfyn Street on 26 October leaving two drivers injured.
Three people were critically injured after they were involved in a crash on the N1 between Beyers Naudé Drive and 14th Avenue. The vehicle allegedly lost control and crashed into a tree on the side of the road.
