Girls from Zandspruit Primary School and Far North Secondary School in Cosmo City received 200 packs of sanitary towels on 4 November.
The Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden in Poortview ran a campaign that started on Mandela Day in July to accumulate sanitary towels for needy girls.
Marketing and communications manager, Ronny Tshabalala said some of the girls come from very poor families where this necessity is regarded as a luxury.
“Schools are usually not capacitated to handle such personal emergencies, hence the gesture to ready the schools to meet this challenge,” said Tshabalala
The Botanical Garden worked in partnership with Zandspruit NGO to make this possible for the girls.
