Afriforum disagrees with MMC for housing
WILGESPRUIT – Afriforum sasy MMC for Housing has allegedly given provincial ground to squatters.
MMC for Housing Dan Bovu has allegedly informed residents that a part of land in Wilgespruit will be used for informal housing.
Afriforum provincial coordinator Chris Fourie said the part of land Bovu has allegdly given to squatters is in fact the Provincial Goverment’s land.
“This land has been reserved for future Metro Boulevard roads,”said Fourie.
Fourie said he feels Bovu’s action is irresponsible as it incites illegal squatting.
“What authority does Bovu have to promise provincial land to landgrabbers?” questioned Fourie.
Fourie said AfriForum has sent a request to Johannesburg City Manager Trevor Fowler to stop Bovu’s alleged plans immediately.
“AfriForum has informed the Provincial Government and requested them to take the necessary steps to remove landgrabbers as soon as they start invading,” said Fourie.
Fourie said if an informal settlement is established a proper participation process must take place.
He added that Afriforum encourages Wilgespruit residents to stand up and fight for their rights.
Fourie said if anybody wants to support Afriforum and the Wilgespruit residents, they should SMS the word “Wilgespruit” to 45342 .
Bovu could not be reached for comment.
