New CPF chairperson calls for partnership approach

MULDERSDRIFT – New CPF chairperson encourages working partnership between community, police and security companies to eradicate crime in Muldersdrift.

The new Muldersdrift Community Policing Forum (CPF) chairperson Johan Nell encourages a sustainable working partnership between police, community and private security companies.

Nell said it was only through a three-pronged approach that crime could be tackled adequately.

“Each plays a vital role in sharing information and we have seen the success of the alliance when the three work together. Our data shows that crime has dropped in areas where there is a strong and active community security association working with the private security companies like Drift and SMS who are dominant in the area and the SAPS,” he explained.

Nell further explained that although the CPF was using all the resources at its disposal to stay ahead of crime trends it does rely on community assistance. Residents could assist by reporting suspicious behaviour and getting involved in crime-prevention initiatives.

“Our joint-operations are a great example of where this is especially effective. We work closely with the SAPS and other private security companies to carry out raids on areas that have been reported as ‘problem’ areas by the community,” he reckoned.

Nell set a couple of key objectives when he took the helm of the CPF. According to him, the CPF required immense co-operation and trust between the parties.

“We would particularly like to see the re-establishment of the Security Forum which will allow us to form a Central Control Room where we can share intelligence and stats.

“The Muldersdrift Police Station has done an impressive job in building up the station into its number one position and we now need to ensure we maintain momentum,” he elaborated.

The CPF was addressing issues like excessive noise from shebeens and alcohol-related disputes as it was established that those challenges escalate during festive season holidays.

“We are cognisant of the fact that crime nationally escalates the closer we get to Christmas and believe it is important for everyone to stay alert and for the community to work closely together over the next three months,” he concluded.
