The annual Squires Ball took place on 22 August at the Usambara Lodge, where the top Squires from Rand Park High School were recognised for raising the biggest amount of money during their reign as Squires.
Grade 11 pupil Jarod Goosen won the coveted award for the Top Squire for 2015, Michael van Vuuren came second and Sean Bannister was named the final runner-up.
The 45 Squires worked hard to raise funds for the school, and their beneficiary charities throughout the year. The Squires made an immense effort to raise funds during the course of the year through various events such as golf days, food fiesta days and the annual fête. The pupils also have the opportunity to raise funds through various fundraising events and campaigns.
The success of the programme is largely dependent on the Squires’ commitment to their fundraising efforts and the support the pupils receive from their parents.
Communications officer Heather Robinson said Usambara was the perfect place to host the Squires Ball. ”It was a well-attended event where parents got the opportunity to see the hard work the young men put into raising funds,” she said.
During the event, the Squires also had the opportunity to waltz with their mothers. The proceeds raised by the Squires goes toward investing in the school’s infrastructure and a percentage goes towards charity or outreach programmes.
