GALLERY: Traffic mayhem as N14 upgrades continue

RUIMSIG – The rehabilitation of N14 from Diepsloot to Hendrik Potgieter Road is expected to last until October next year.

Motorists driving on the N14 from Hendrik Potgieter Road constantly experience robust traffic congestion, especially during peak hours.

This is mainly caused by the rehabilitation of the N14 between Diepsloot and Krugersdorp launched on 15 July. The 18-month phase one of the project is expected to last until October next year.

Until then, motorists will have to brace themselves and drive carefully, especially during peak hours.

The Department of Roads and Transport notified motorist to expect delays on both the east- and west-bound carriages of road.

“The rehabilitation project will run for 18 months, it is necessary to save the road and extend its serviceable life by another 20 years,” explained Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport spokesperson Octavia Mamabolo.

She elaborated that the project was expected to provide employment, skills development opportunities, and provide training and economic empowerment to local communities.

“The Department appeals for patience to all road users and apologises for the inconvenience caused,” said Mamabolo.

She indicated that the R300-million project is expected to improve the structural and functional condition of the road as well as extend the optimal pavement functionality by 15 years.

Phase two of the project will take place between Centurion and Diepsloot.
