Sisters help children with aftercare
ZANDSPRUIT – Three sisters from Zandspruit need assistance with their non-profit aftercare
Doing their bit for their community are three young women who run an aftercare for school children in Zandspruit.
It is now almost two years that the Kwakwari sisters, Princess, Neziswa (16) and Sisanda (19) have funded Zamokuhle Aftercare out of their own pocket but now ask for assistance in order to keep it open.
They help children from grades 1 to 8 with their homework every day after school. “Some of the parents are not very literate and therefore can’t understand or help the children with the school work they bring home,” Princess said.
She added that they help 60 children every day in the tiny room – which has no electricity and running water – that they have been allowed to use by a resident. She said that they hope to get someone to assist them with the running of their aftercare as they do not have books, pens, tables and chairs, as theirs were stolen a few months ago.
“In Zandspruit there are children who get raped and there is very little parental supervision so we engage with the children until 6pm every day after school,” Princess said. She added that they desperately need a reliable mode of transport to help with extra-curricular activities and implore anyone who could lend a helping hand to do so.
Princess pointed out that they provide the children with a safe place to go after school and this helps them to avoid peer pressure, which could lead to the children becoming involved in drugs and criminal activities. They also look after four children with disabilities.
Princess has a certificate in child development and a certificate in first aid. Neziswe is in Grade 10 and Sisanda passed Matric last year and they have big hopes and dreams for Zamokuhle Aftercare.
Anyone who would like to help can call Princess on 073 810 1469 or Sisanda on 073 972 4438.
