Early bird walk and talk

MULDERSDRIFT — Residents take time out in nature.

The South African Riding for Disabled Association (Sarda) had an early morning bird walk and talk with residents on 18 July at Random Harvest Nursery in Muldersdrift.

Guided by well-known birding expert André Marx, local enthusiasts braved the cold morning chill to identify different bird species at the vast property. Marx said the most important part of identifying birds and their sounds was to walk in the surroundings and listen to every sound.

“Just walk, listen and learn. Eventually, you will be able to make out the birds’ calls.”

During the two-hour walk, they identified the southern boubou, Cape turtle dove and the brown-hooded kingfisher.

All proceeds went to Sarda’s work with disabled children and adults.
