Matric pupils are urged to apply now

JOBURG – Matric students are advised to apply now at tertiary institutions, to avoid any disappointments.

National Department of Higher Education and Training launched its Apply Now Campaign on 8 June, which seeks to encourage matric students to apply now, at tertiary institutions.

The campaign was initiated by the Department of Higher Education and Training following the unfortunate incident that happened at the University of Johannesburg in 2012 where a mother died in a stampede while accompanying her child to submit a late application.

The majority of universities have opened their application processes for 2016.

Some will close in September while others will close in October.

The University of Johannesburg had a mini Open Day in May and the application process for undergraduate faculties will close on 30 September.

Monash University South Africa (MSA) in Ruimsig, had its Open Day in April, which incorporated an iDiscover Pursue your Passion seminar.

According to MSA, the seminar was aimed at challenging the youth and members of the public to Pursue their Passion and learn about different study opportunities that are available to them.

The seminar boasted some of MSA’s finest academics, who presented thought provoking presentations that provided an insight into their respective courses.

The Career Guidance component of the campaign seeks to inform pupils about career choices available within the Post-School Education and Training (PSET) sector.

The campaign runs from March to September, across the country to assist pupils to make informed choices.

It also seeks to inform pupils about things to look out for when choosing their institutions of higher learning to avoid being conned by unregistered and bogus colleges who offer them unaccredited qualifications.
