Performing his way to the top
RUIMSIG – Dancing sensation, Warrick Naudé (10) makes it to national finals.
Young Warrick Naudé has made it to the finals of the National Eisteddfod Academy (NEA) Young Performer of the Year Awards, for the second year in a row.
The Grade 4 pupil at Maragon Private Schools in Ruimsig received a diploma award for his hip hop solo dance last year, when he was just nine years old.
HOD of the culture department in the Intersen Phase at the school, Annelise Botha said the pupil entered the NEA Young Performer of the Year Competition in March.
“There were 1 361 qualifying entries and they were reduced to 83 semi-finalists, and then the 25 finalists were chosen over a number of rounds. These included individual and group performances, different genres of contemporary music, speech and drama and dance.”
Naudé walked away as the overall winner for the dance entry level. Genevieve Naudé, Warrick’s mother, said her son’s outstanding achievements are simply overwhelming.
“We are so proud and in awe of his achievements at such a young age. He dances four times a week at the [Mario Gomes Hip Hop Dance Academy https://mariogomesdanceacademy.co.za/]. He does solo dances and is part of a crew at the academy,” she beamed.
The 10-year-old will also be competing in Italy, in October this year at the IDO Hip Hop World Championships.
