Local women in business empowered
STRUBENS VALLEY — Female entrepreneurs given a platform to soar to greater heights.
Women from the West Rand were inspired by leading businesswomen at the Margaret Hirsch Woman in Business Achiever Awards.
The competition was launched in Struben’s Valley, with a large number of women representing a wide variety of business backgrounds. According to Hirsch‘ public relations and marketing officer, Amoryn Golden, the competition runs across the country and businesswomen are encouraged to enter at their closest branch.
“The object of the club is twofold: businesswomen can get together and network, and those that are doing really well, can be recognised for the good work that they do,” explained Golden.
Mrs SA finalist Thalita Jansen van Vuuren was guest speaker at the event. She reminded the women in attendance of their worth and being able to persevere as an entrepreneur. One resident who attended, Sandy Emslie, enthused, “This is the kind of support structure women in business need everywhere. I was left inspired and ready to take on the world of business.”
Chief Operating Officer at Hirsch’, Margaret Hirsch is no stranger to the world of business, having started the retail store with her husband in 1979. Today, they have 13 branches in KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and Cape Town.
“After winning several awards I realised that it is actually fantastic to have these accolades behind your name. It not only enhances the way you feel about yourself, but it shows that people acknowledge the hard work that you do and it gives you far more credibility. It is my aim to help as many entrepreneurs as I possibly can,” Margaret concluded.
