Crime invades Stingray Street
RANDPARK RIDGE – Randpark Ridge resident from Stingray street says they are now living in fear of crime.
Stingray Street in Randpark Ridge has now become a place of fear for residents.
In the past six weeks, more than five houses have been broken into and residents robbed.
Resident Joe Molifi said he was terrified for his family when they were robbed.
“In the early hours of the morning, around 4am I heard someone jumping over my gate, I pressed the alarm but they ran before ADT could arrive,” Molifi recalled.
“They fled with our TV and other essentials in the house and when my wife tried to open the door to check on the children, we heard a gun shot.
“We called the police and left the crime scene as it was for a week, but the police did not come, even until this day,” he said.
“We have sleepless nights, every movement in the house or outside scares me, and it even affects our children,” he added.
“We need to do something before someone dies, we don’t even have police patrolling in the area,” Molifi said.
He said a case was opened with Honeydew SAPS.
Morgan and Constance Moledi also said, they have been living in the area for 24 years and this is the first time they are experiencing crime.
“We suspect that all these crimes are all committed by foreigners,” he said.
This is a beautiful place but residents are now scared, some of them are now contemplating to move, Morgan said.
Morgan added he now wants the intelligence-driven operation titled Operation FIELA to do its job.
Meanwhile, Constance said crime has taken over her life and she has sleepless nights.
“I can’t sleep anymore, ever since it happened, I always wake up at night, listening to who is in the house,” she said.
Residents said when the suspects enter their home, they normally eat what is in the fridge.
“They are not even scared that we are in the house, we found the fridge open when the person fled,” said Constance.
Ward 126 Councillor Mike Tonkin said he was not aware of what has been happening in the area.
Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs of Honeydew Police Station is yet to respond.
