New developments in Weltevreden Park to boost the economy

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Councillor optimistic about new developments but still sad to see Rebel Farmers close their doors after years of service to the community.

The area of Weltevreden Park close to the intersection of Jim Fouche and Hendrik Potgieter Roads is busy undergoing a couple of changes as new developments are moving into the area.

One of the older businesses in the area, Rebel Farmers will close its doors to make way for a bigger chain store.

Rebel Farmers’ owner Sylvester Gonsalves confirmed that they will be closing down after years of service to the community.“The time has come for us to pack up and go but I’m glad to announce that a Chamberlains Hardware store will be opening on the Rebels Farmers premises.” He was unable to say when the construction to the new Chamberlains store will begin.

Ward 126 councillor Mike Tonkin added that the developments are not going to stop there as developers are planning to build a plant nursery across Rebel Farmers.

“A large Motor City will open behind the nursery and the Volkswagen and Honda dealerships across the roads from Rebel Farmers on Hendrik Potgieter Road, will move to this much bigger premises in the near future.”

The councillor continued and said that he doesn’t have exact dates for when the construction will begin but speculated that it should start before the end of 2015.

Gonsalves said, “I have to thank the community for their ongoing support during the years as they have stood with us during thick and thin times.”

Tonkin concluded and said, “It’s positive news that new developments will take place in the area because it should bring in more feet into Weltevreden Park and it will be good news for the surrounding areas.”
