WELTEVREDEN PARK – Emerging bands rock out at the Squires third annual birthday bash.

Squire’s annual birthday bash welcomed up-and-coming artists to perform on stage for loyal listeners at Rumours Lounge on 11 and 12 April.

Simon Foulds, also known as the Squire and Emerging Sounds, created a platform for emerging bands in his noteworthy Battle of the Bands (Battle for Rumours) event, which is currently in its 18th year.

Over 40 bands came to pay homage to the legend’s birthday.

The mesh of rock, electric, blues and acoustic events have seen some greats rise out of the shadows.

Big names such as Seether, Freshly Ground, Parlotones and Prime Circle have been launched via these events.

This year there were 18 bands and six acoustic performers on 11 April, with 12 bands and six acoustic performers on Sunday, respectively.

“I use events like these to help create a platform for bands. It launches their career into the larger music scene. When people pay for their entrance, I ask which band they are here to support. It is this way that I am able to drive an incentive toward the bands to expand their fan base,” said Foulds.
