GALLERY: Maropeng offers one of a kind pairing
STERKFONTEIN — Residents are treated to five star meals and highly acclaimed wines
Smooth jazz playing in the background, nationally-acclaimed wines and gourmet food, the wine pairing at Maropeng Hotel on 28 March was a VIP experience for a king.
The event was the first of its kind at the hotel and aimed at introducing, and maybe showing off, the new chefs.
Head chef Zhan Steyn said he worked with his team in the weeks before the pairing, trying to put different meals together with wines that complement them.
“We are very excited to start this at Maropeng. We tried out all the meals ourselves and pair them with every wine that complements it.”
People were treated to a six-course meal and wines from the Magaliesburg winery.
“The pairings will also be tied with specific days such as Mother’s Day or Father’s Day. Every month will we will do a different pairing. This month is Wine, then it will be whisky or craft beer. It is a great food experience that everyone can enjoy,” said, Linday Marshall, acting general manager and communications manager.
The room was filed with whispered ‘oohs’ and ‘mmms’ as every dish was ushered out from the kitchen.
The first wine pairing event certainly lived up to expectations and delivered a one-of-a-kind feast.
