Community cleans up crime hotspot
RADIOKOP — Chairperson of the newly formed resident's association starts with a clean-up as the first act of office.
Chairperson of the Resident’s Association in Allen Glen, Craig Rheeders has taken the bull by the horns with a clean-up on Christiaan de Wet Road and Rinyane Avenue in Radiokop.
The tall grass makes it easy for criminals to hide there, making it a hotspot for criminal activity.
Lin Chandler, one of the association’s members, was there on 27 March with one other volunteer to cut the grass as part of crime reduction.
“We have heard reports about crime peaking in this specific spot so we are cutting the grass to reduce crime. We will be working throughout the weekend to cut the grass all the way down on Christiaan de Wet Road. Honeydew Lawnmowers sponsored our team with equipment to work throughout the weekend,” she said.
According to Chandler, there have been numerous robberies and related crimes being reported in that area, where criminals can easily hide because of the tall grass. She added that the clean-ups would be done on a regular basis by the residents.
