Serrao promotes local talent in Greenside
Musician Justin Serrao provides local musician with a platform to showcase their musical repertoire.
Local musicians were afforded the opportunity to perform at the Yoh Yoh Yoh Sundays event which was held at Mamma’s Shebeen restaurant in Greenside on 1 March.
The event was organised by rock artist and Wilgeheuwel resident Justin Serrao, where bands were given a 40-minute time slot to perform their music to a gathered audience at the restaurant.
Serroao has been quite active in the local community and has also made plans to take his music abroad.
He was very proud of the fact that he could provide a platform for local artists to showcase their talent.
“The main reason behind these Yoh Yoh Yoh Sundays was that I felt I wanted to give back to my fellow local musicians. The event has been going on for a while now – we try to host it once a month at Mamma’s Shebeen. It’s an honour for me to be able to provide this platform,” he said.
Residents and restaurant-goers were entertained by a slew of different music genre styles, ranging from alternative to country.
The owner of the Mamma’s Shebeen Yaw Dwomoh was happy to have his restaurant play host to the event.
“Justin’s initiative has been very successful. The event always draws a large crowd of people every time we host it. This, of course, gives the artists the opportunity to get their music out there to a larger audience. Apart from being a great artist himself, Justin has a talent of drawing people from all backgrounds, which is amazing” he said.
The bands that performed at the event where Durban-based singing duo Connecting Stars; alternative band Parts and Fiction; rapper Unnoficial Q dude; singer Christelle; and Justin Serrao himself.
